What is uva’s policy regarding financial aid for daca students?

DACA students are not currently eligible for federal student aid. Since Fall 2019, UVA has offered limited institutional aid to degree-seeking in-state undergraduate students with DACA approval who have demonstrated financial need. Out-of-state DACA students and graduate DACA students are not eligible for this institutional aid. Contact Student Financial Services at [email protected]or 434-982-6000 for more information.

As of the fall semester of 2022, any student who attended a Virginia high school for at least two years and submits evidence that the student or, in the case of a dependent student, at least one parent or guardian, has filed Virginia income taxes for at least two years, is eligible for financial assistance programs administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, the State Board, or the University of Virginia, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.

Virginia-domiciled students or those who meet the Tuition Equity provision with either DACA or undocumented status could be eligible for both State and University financial aid. Visit Student Financial Services for information about Financial Resources for Students who Cannot Complete the FAFSA.

Students with DACA status may apply for state aid through the Virginia Alternate State Aid (VASA) Application.

I am an undocumented student without DACA approval. Will I qualify for in-state tuition at UVA?

In April 2020, Gov. Ralph Northam signed into law legislation that expands in-state eligibility at Virginia schools to all students who have attended at least two years of high school in Virginia and who have filed, or whose parent or guardian has filed, Virginia income tax returns for at least two years prior to enrollment, regardless of their citizenship or immigration status. That law became effective July 1, 2020.  Qualified undocumented students will be eligible for in-state tuition rates.
