DACA & Undocumented Student Resources
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was established in 2012 through Executive Order to provide temporary authorization for undocumented persons who arrived as children to the US to remain in the US. It defers the action of removing them from the US for a specific period. During this time, they may study and work in the US. One must apply to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for DACA and under current policy, DACA can be renewed every two years.
On Aug. 30, 2022, DHS issued the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Final Rule to preserve and fortify the DACA policy. This rule rescinds and replaces the DACA guidance set forth in the 2012 Napolitano Memorandum. The final rule is effective as of Oct. 31, 2022.
