Welcome!

The Meriwether Lewis Institute for Citizen Leadership (MLI) at the University of Virginia is a multi-year fellowship that prepares students for a lifetime of leadership at the University and beyond. Students form long-lasting connections with their peers, UVA faculty/staff, and senior administrators. We are looking for student leaders who want to leave the university better than they found it. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the bureaucracy of UVA and the power of student self-governance.

In the summer between their second and third years, the Fellows stay in Charlottesville for a five-week program where they learn various leadership skills.
