Hazing Report

1. Student Affairs Initial Inquiry

  • Safety planning
  • Protection from retaliation

2. Does this fall under Sexual or Gender-Based Harassment policy?

  • If Yes: Involve EOCR in next steps and go to Step #3.
  • If No: Go to Step #3.

3. Immediate threat to health and safety?

  • If Yes: Consider:
    • Suspension of CIO/FOA/team
    • Interim-suspension of student(s)
    • No contact order
    • Go to Step #4.
  • If No: Go to Step #4.

4. Evaluation Panel (Student Affairs, Office of Equal Opportunity & Civil Rights, University Police Department)

5. Actionable?

  • Identifiable group or individuals?
  • Enough info to follow up?
    • If Yes: Go to Step #6.
    • If No: Any suspension restored*

* May recommend educational program(s)

6. Physical injury or threat to health and safety?

  • If Yes: Disclose to law enforcement and Commonwealth's Attorney, and proceed to Step #7.
  • If No: Proceed to Step #7.

7. Investigation

  • Interview parties and witnesses

8. Was it hazing?

  • Standard: more likely than not
  • If Yes:
    • Range of Sanctions:
      • Terminate CIO/FOA, suspend team (can appeal CIO/FOA termination within 10 days to VPSA)
      • Refer to UJC
  • If No: 
    • Any suspension restored*
