To the University Community:

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the death of third-year College student Robert “Robbie” Eriksson from Stephen’s City, Va., who passed away on Tuesday, September 21. Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, Charolette and Robert; his sisters Lauren and Annie; other family members; and his fraternity brothers, friends, and classmates at UVA. Robbie was a 2019 graduate of Sherando High School.

An outstanding student academically, Robbie was double majoring in economics and cognitive science, with a minor in computer science. As co-president of the Econ Club, he was devoted to his chosen discipline, and faculty in the department shared what a wonderful member of the community he was. Robbie was a member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, and lived with his fraternity brothers this year. He also worked as a caller for the Cavalier Connect fundraising phonathon during his earlier time at the University.

One of Robbie’s fraternity brothers said: “He was so incredibly intelligent. I always admired how organized he was and how clearly he could convey his ideas and goals. But above all his kindness is what made me admire him the most.”

Robbie’s mother, Charolette, also highlighted Robbie’s “incredible kindness” and said: “He was very witty and could easily make us laugh out loud with his unique perspective on all things. He wrote poetry and told his sister it brings solace to his soul.” His family fervently hopes others who are struggling with their mental health will seek help.

Memorial service details are forthcoming.

The loss of a classmate and fellow member of our community is painful and unsettling. If you are a student and need support during this time, you may call Counseling and Psychological Services at 434-243-5150.  Faculty and staff can find a similar resource through the Faculty and Employee Assistance Program and may access services by completing a brief intake form.

Please keep Robbie’s family and friends in your thoughts at this very difficult time.

Sincerely,

Julie I. Caruccio
Interim Dean of Students
