Leadership Development Opportunities
There are many opportunities within the Division of Student Affairs and Student Engagement to grow as a leader. From leadership development programs to roles in the University's system of student-self governance, there is truly an option for everyone no matter your previous experience.
- Blueprint Leadership Program
Blueprint Leadership Program provides first-year, second-year, and transfer students with a toolbox of fundamental leadership skills and qualities. Blueprint can be your springboard into a leadership role on Grounds, while also giving you the skills to excel in life after college.
- Honor Committee
Honor Committee is one of UVA's most important and longest running organizations and is at the corner stone of student self-government. Join Honor Committee to help hold students accountable to the UVA Honor Code.
- Lead a Student Organization
There are more than 800 Contracted Independent Organizations (CIOs), or student organizations. CIOs are the backbone of student life and community. All of these groups are completely ran by student officers who set goals, recruit/train/retain members, manage budgets, and host events or provide services. Join a group or start one of your own to begin to take on a role.
- Merriweather Lewis Institute
The Meriwether Lewis Institute for Citizen Leadership (MLI) is a multi-year fellowship that prepares students for a lifetime of leadership at the University and beyond. Open to second-year students, MLI is a prestigious opportunity to grow and learn in a cohort of fellow students with direct support/conversations/mentoring from UVA faculty and administrators.
- Multicultural Student Services Leadership Programs
How does identity influence leadership? Our identities shape how we experience the world socially, culturally, politically, and economically. These factors play a key role in how we lead, as they influence our perspectives and interactions within specific historical or cultural contexts. Multicultural Student Services (MSS) offers a wide range of identity based leadership programs which can help you further dive into your identities and how they impact and foster your leadership skills.
- Student Council
Student Council is the official voice of students. Be a part of their efforts to protect and improve rights, opportunities, and quality of life for all students.
- University Board of Elections (UBE)
University Board of Elections (UBE) is the responsible for the the supervision and management of all University-Wide student elections. Help UBE support a core principle of UVA, student self-governance, and the many student organizations (Student Council, Honor Committee, etc) on Grounds that rely on the honor and trustworthiness of this independent body.
- University Judiciary Committee (UJC)
The University Judiciary Committee (UJC) is the student-run judiciary body of the University of Virginia and is authorized to investigate and adjudicate alleged violations of the University’s Standards of Conduct. Stand up and seek to be elected into this group of peers seeking to uphold community standards.
- University Programs Council (UPC)
University Programs Council (UPC) works to build community on Grounds one event at a time. This student-led programming board hosts more than 50 events each year from large concerts to craft nights. Get involved in UPC to help develop, plan, and implement some of UVA's most impactful events.
- Women's Leadership Development Program (WLDP)
Women's Leadership Development Program (WLDP) fosters leadership growth through dynamic presentations, networking opportunities, and engagement with inspiring role models. Open to all interested students, the program explores leadership through the experiences and perspectives of women.
