MILE Cohort SP23

Mission:

The Muslim Institute for Leadership & Empowerment (MILE) is a leadership, identity, and community development program that seeks to create socially-aware leaders within the University and beyond. With a primary focus on the Muslim community, this yearly program cultivates a space for its student cohort to engage with complex issues and explore meaningful strategies for progress. MILE aspires to empower its students in becoming agents of change for themselves and their communities.

Values:

The Muslim Institute for Leadership and Empowerment (MILE) embraces and upholds the following essential components of leadership:

  • Lift As You Climb: Lifelong leaders empower others to grow as champions of their truth and leaders of their communities.
  • Challenge Yourself and Others: Our community is stronger when it is aware of its faults and strives to do better.
  • Come As You Are: Leadership requires understanding and empathy of those unlike us–it is our duty to admire and celebrate others for their spirit.

Structure:

A cohort of approximately 30 underclassmen and transfer students from Muslim backgrounds, who meet for ten, two-hour weekly sessions in the spring semester for leadership development. There will be workshops, lessons, guest speakers, personal development, a beginning-of-the-year reception, and an end-of-year graduation celebration.
