A native Louisianian, Dr. Mason took his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Dillard University, a small private HBCU in New Orleans, and received an M.Ed. in Community and School Counseling from the University of New Orleans. He completed his doctoral studies in Counselor Education and Supervision in the School of Education and Human Development. Before joining the OAAA staff full-time, Dr. Mason held several positions at the University.
In 2008, Dr. Mason joined the faculty of the Counselor Education department in the School of Education and Human Development as an Assistant Professor. In 2010, he transitioned to a Clinical position, Multicultural Specialist, in the Elson Student Health Counseling and Psychological Services Department, where he served as a staff psychotherapist and liaison to the Office of African-American Affairs (OAAA).
In May of 2015, Dr. Mason took on the role of Assistant Dean of African-American Affairs and Director of the Luther P. Jackson Black Cultural Center and was promoted to Associate Dean in 2018. His tenure as Interim Dean began July 1, 2022.
