Funds for Student Programs
The Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer seeks to promote positive, healthy avenues of engagement in University life and, specifically, on-Grounds activities aimed at developing citizen leadership through community, inclusion, and wellness.
We fund a wide variety of programs that loosely fall into five categories:
The original intent of our funding was to encourage on-Grounds social events as alternatives to off-Grounds events at which alcohol was served. While over the years we have expanded that mission to include a wide array of academic and cultural programs, we stay close to the on-Grounds requirement.
Program funding is event-specific, and may only be used to pay pre-approved expenses for that event. Funds may not be used for ongoing operating expenses. Each funding award closes 60 days after conclusion of the event or the last day of that term's exams, whichever comes first, at which time any unused balance is released back to the programming fund to support other awards.
Please note that there should be no expectation of continued or recurring funding for any specific event or type of event, regardless of its relative merit or success. A new application must be made for each event, and there may be different outcomes for similar proposals semester to semester or year to year, depending on availability of funds, equity across the University community, etc. We do not fund event series as a single entity; if a group is seeking funding for events in a series, they will need to submit a discrete application for each event in the series.
We do not fund:
- Events at which alcohol is served
- Ongoing operating funds for student organizations
- See Special Considerations and Restrictions for other limitations
See Additional Resources for Student Funding for other University offices and organizations that provide financial support for student programs.
