Zach Lederer, Chair of the University Board of Elections

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a great first week of classes! My name is Zach Lederer, and I am the Chair of the University Board of Elections (UBE).

In early March, the University community will be voting in the Spring 2025 University-wide Elections. On the ballot are positions within Student Council, Honor, UJC, and various Class and School Councils. These organizations and positions plan large events, manage the disbursement of millions of dollars, and have disciplinary powers over the student body. As such, strong leadership and passion are needed from those who hold these critical roles. Please refer to the UBE's Spring 2025 Elections Guide for a list of available positions and their descriptions, which can be found on the UBE's website. If you wish to learn more about the specific positions on the ballot, please reach out to the contacts listed in the Elections Guide.

If you are interested in running for a position, you must complete one of the following to be eligible:

The Candidate Information Sessions will be held on:

  • Sunday, Jan. 26, at 7:00 p.m. in Newcomb 376
  • Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 7:00 p.m. in Newcomb 389
  • Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7:00 p.m. in Newcomb 164

The candidate eligibility quiz will close on Sunday, February 2, at 4 p.m.

To receive access to the required candidate registration form, you must attend either an information session or complete the eligibility quiz linked above. This applies to all prospective candidates, whether they currently hold elected positions and regardless of school of enrollment.

To stay updated on all matters related to the election, please visit the UBE's website at studentelections.virginia.edu and follow our Instagram (@uva_ube). On our website, you will find the information required to complete the eligibility quiz, which are the Candidate Information Session PowerPoint (and recording), the Spring 2025 Elections Calendar, and our Rules & Regulations. Also on our website are details on how to submit referendums to the ballot and how student organizations can register to endorse candidates in the election.

If you are unsure about running or are interested in learning more about the campaign process, the UBE is hosting a roundtable discussion with several current student leaders on these topics and more on Monday, January 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Trial Room (fourth floor of Newcomb Hall). This is a great opportunity to hear advice from past election winners, so I encourage those interested in running to attend this event!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to visit the UBE's website or contact [email protected]. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you run for an elected position this election cycle!

Thank you,

Zach Lederer
