Dear UVA Students:

I hope you are well and enjoying our beautiful fall weather in Virginia. I am writing to share with you a handful of resources you might find useful as Election Day approaches.

First, I want to remind you that Election Day (Tuesday, November 5) is an Academic Division holiday and classes will not be held. Normal academic activities will resume the following day (November 6). If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to exercise your civic duty by voting. If you are registered to vote in Virginia, you can find information about your polling location on the VA Department of Elections website. Two polling spots are located on Grounds at Slaughter Recreation Center at 505 Edgemont Rd., and the Miller Center at 2201 Old Ivy Rd.

If you need assistance getting to the polls on Election Day or have other questions about voting, UVA Student Council has a wealth of resources available on their website.

For members of our community who would like to learn more about the 2024 election and what comes next, the Karsh Institute of Democracy, the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, and the Miller Center of Public Affairs will host a post-election analysis event on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 9:30 a.m. in Garrett Hall and streamed online. Throughout this campaign, the Karsh Institute has maintained a calendar of events related to the 2024 elections and they will continue to post events as they are organized and announced.

Finally, election experts are predicting close races this year in many regional, state, and national contests. Election results may take several days or even weeks for some races.

Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other during this election season. Regardless of our differences, including our political viewpoints and perspectives on the outcome of elections, our UVA community thrives when we can share our views and listen to others with mutual respect and civility.

Sincerely,

Kenyon R. Bonner
Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer
