I hope you all had a great first week of classes! My name is Luke Lamberson, and I am the Chair of the University Board of Elections (UBE).
In early March, the University community will be voting in the Spring 2023 University Wide-Elections. If you seek to improve UVA, are dissatisfied with the current state of affairs, or passionate about student self-governance, then I strongly urge you to run for one of the many open positions on Student Council, Honor, UJC, or the various Class/School Councils.
Through these organizations, student leaders have the opportunity to effect change and contribute to the University’s long history of student self-governance. Strong leadership is needed now more than ever. Please reference UBE’s Spring 2023 Elections Guide for a list of available positions and their associated descriptions.
If you are interested in running for a position, you must complete one of the following to be eligible:
- Attend a Candidate Information Session hosted by the University Board of Elections
- Take UBE’s short candidate eligibility quiz.
The Candidate Information Sessions will be held on:
Sunday 1/29: 7 p.m. at Newcomb 177
Tuesday 1/31: 7 p.m. at Newcomb 177
Wednesday 2/1: 7:30 p.m. at Newcomb 177
Please consult this webpage for the up-to-date locations of these information sessions.
The candidate eligibility quiz will be closed to submissions on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m.
In order to receive access to the required candidate registration form, you must attend either an information session or complete the eligibility quiz linked above.
All the information required to successfully complete the eligibility quiz can be found at studentelections.virginia.edu. While the website contains additional information that may be helpful, the primary documents needed for the quiz are the Candidate Information Session PowerPoint, the Spring 2023 Elections Calendar, and our Rules & Regulations.
I hope you have an excellent beginning to your semester. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact [email protected].
All the best,
Chair, University Board of Elections
